Turn Degenerate into Regenerate
It Will Help Restore Balance in the Natural World
As a nature-lover I often despair over the loss of a beautiful natural landscape that I experienced as a child or over a significant degradation of open spaces around me. What humans have done to the earth saddens me to such an extent that I am continually searching for ways to simply address the challenging issues of the day that impact our environment. Climate change and its repercussions top the list. Cultural change is the answer.
In this regard I have begun to study literature that explains regenerative land management. I encourage you to do so as well. Here are a few resources to start the inquiry:
https://www.chelseagreen.com - my “go to” publisher for all things sustainable
https://www.motherearthnews.com/nature-and-environment/boost-biodiversity-regenerative-agriculture-zm0z20aszbut – August/September 2020 Issue: Boost Biodiversity with Regenerative Agriculture. This is a great introduction to regenerative land management in the farm sphere.
The referenced article lists key principles behind the concept:
Eliminate tillage to increase life in the soil.
Replace bare soil with living roots.
Encourage plant diversity.
Integrate crops and livestock.
The author of the article emphasizes that regenerating food systems is one of the most effective approaches we have for battling pollution, climate change, human health problems, and biodiversity conservation.
These actions are easy to incorporate and do not require huge expenditures of money. Quite the contrary, they will save you money in the short and long term as you engage with the land and protect natural resources.
Substitute smart solutions for toxic problems. Replace the Degeneration of our Earth with Regeneration. Nature knows what to do, so all we have to do is restart the process. Let Nature do its work.
